History
Amanda Perrett started training horses alongside her husband Mark at Coombelands Racing Stables in Sussex in 1996. She took over the reins from her father, esteemed racehorse trainer Guy Harwood, who retired after training over 1,600 winners, 30 of which were Group 1 winners. Guy trained the great Dancing Brave, winner of the 2000 Guineas, The Eclipse Stakes, The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe which he took in breathtaking fashion under Pat Eddery, a performance which earned him an International Classification of 141, the highest rating ever given to a horse at that time.
With her father Guy Harwood being such a successful trainer, Amanda was brought up around racehorses. Amanda was a successful amateur jockey winning 90 races and became the first lady to ride in the Champion Hurdle at the 1990 Cheltenham Festival. Amanda was also a successful three-day event rider, she won Punchestown junior three-day event and also represented her country in Italy.
Mark Perrett, son of jockey Philip Perrett and the grandson of racehorse trainer Major Champneys, was a successful National Hunt jockey who rode over 900 winners including enjoying success with seven winners at the Cheltenham Festival and both the Scottish and Welsh Grand Nationals. Latterly he rode successfully as a flat jockey winning on one of his Cheltenham Festival winners Balasani at Royal Ascot.
At the end of 2021, Amanda and her sister Lucinda took over the ownership of Coombelands Equestrian, founded in 2006 by their sister Gaye. She designed and developed the cross country course and all weather arenas for show jumping, arena eventing and dressage, hosting a number of One Day Events, Hunter Trials, Affiliated and Unaffiliated Show Jumping events, Dressage, Pony Club, Riding Club and Clincs.
Their family is committed to providing top class training and competition facilities for racehorses and sport horses with all of the family interested in the equestrian business. Ryan and Emma Perrett, together with Alice, Bella and Sam Crowley all compete in show jumping following in footsteps of their parents, Lucinda rode very successfully as an amateur jockey, show jumping and eventing and her husband Jim was champion flat jockey in 2016 as well as being retained jockey for Shadwell.
Working with Amanda, Mark, Lucinda and Jim at Coombelands are a team of experienced staff who are dedicated to providing the highest standards of care, with a wealth of racehorse and sport horse knowledge and experience as well as a passion for training, the team have what it takes to win and compete at the highest level.
